This is the thank you note I was slipped by Hamis, the smiling student here...He loves sports, and was pretty overcome when we surprised the kids with new soccer balls, netballs and jerseys.

A huge thank you to our sponsor, Adam Green and Crosstown Engineering: you made a lot of kids at our school in Tanzania so joyful today, thank you so much!!

Check out our new playground!

While this video has been all over social media for a few weeks now, I thought I'd post it again here so you can see the unveiling of our new playground at Kisimani!

The kids have really enjoyed the playground so far - only issue is keeping all 500 of them from going on it at the same time!  We'd love to expand and add more equipment - playtime is such an important part of the day for kids.  If you're interested in sponsoring more of our playground, please email me at leah.wagner@gmail.com!

New PLAYGROUND to be installed in January!

Thanks to a few generous friends of Kisimani, we will be installing a new playground set in January!  It is rare for a government school to have play equipment, so this is a really special treat for all of the students.  We know it will be enjoyed by all of them!!

We were also proud to support the work of IBES, who employ orphaned young men to build their play structures.  So, our purchase was also giving back to them, which always feels good.  More photos to follow!

I am so honored to be the recipient of Unite the World with Africa's "Warrior for Change" grant - and proud to be partnered up with such a dynamic organization as we continue to support Kisimani School.  I have just landed back in Arusha and am eager to get to work helping them on the next projects we have in store...a new kitchen, playground equipment and of course, a new classroom to accommodate our ever growing student body.

Thank you, Unite!

Our "Light's On" campaign is going strong!

1/3/2015

A few months ago, the battery on our solar light panel stopped working.  This means the lights went off, and the power went out!  One of the most special things about Kisimani School is that it is a beacon of light in an area with no power grid.  Teachers have access to the internet, a printer and computers.  Parents can come and charge their cells phones as well, and pay a small donation to the school instead of traveling into town to charge their phones.

We are fundraising here in the US to help get the lights and power back on by replacing this battery and if possible, extending the panel to the new classrooms.

Any contributions above and beyond the cost of the project (about $5,000) will be put towards construction of much-needed offices for our amazing teachers!
